Chapter 4

Blogs have changed the game when it comes to giving people information about things. They have become more popular over the years and it seems that they are the next main spot to find information other than the newspaper. Being that a blog is usually a web page or website, it is used to discuss or inform people using a conversational or informal style. It can be operated by a range of people from a small group to singe person. Being that they were mostly operated by a single person until about 2009 there would only be one voice and usually on topic of discussion. Nowadays blogs have multiple authors which create a blog with different voices and opinions giving the reader more content. Twitter for example is a network allowing people to voicing what they have to say whether fact or opinion.

The process of blogs has affected photojournalism and photojournalist in a positive light. Blogs can be used as a media outlet to reach out to reader from all around the world. It’s a instant social media technology process for help explain news in a different way, using photojournalism. People use blogs to post all different type of things such as, showing people their amazing photo they took or telling a story around a photo. As Professor Nordell says in his video, “there is a declining skill set that is needed to get a decent picture, and so it has really effected the market for photojournalism.”

Comparing a blog and a 35mm Leica is two different technologies that help each other. When creating a blog you can post multiple photos without having a limit. When using a camera like the 35mm Leica you have a limit to photos being taken. Professor Nordell, " the Leica camera was made in Germany...used very small 35 mm film, so with one roll of film you could take 24 or 36 pictures." You would be only be able to take a limit 36 photos. It can cause a problem for some photographer who was at a Olympics games to say and you need to take photos constantly. Being able to post in moment is a great way to reach out to the world. As Professor Nordell said, "it's all about the web and what you can show on the web."

The rise of multimedia has also allowed for more than just photojournalists to share their images and stories with the world. It allows us to interact with different cultures around the world. As newspapers only allow certain photos to be posted to the society and takes a timely matter, people can use different social media to reach out to the world and blogging became very popular. Newspapers and magazine are still very popular but it doesn’t tell the whole story of photos.
