The Art of Photojournalism

Taken: 1840

Is the image black & white or color?

The photo was taken in black and white. The photography didn’t have the choice to take it in color because the technology didn’t exist yet. The photo was also in the era where a lot of people had self-portraits of themselves.

Use of shadows

The is some shadow use in the photo. I think it’s very unique has one of the photo is all shadow and the other side is bright. The photo can have a lot of different meaning to it such as Christianity and darkness vs light.

Subject’s Expression

The subject in the photo seem very relax and somewhat happy. In the photo it looks like maybe she is sitting down in a chair with a good straight up posture. Her face doesn’t show much
emotions but it looks like she has a little glance on her face with a smile.

Why I chose this photo?

It was pretty hard finding a photo that stood out to me. A lot of the photos was pretty simple and almost the same. I chose this one because I like how you couldn’t really tell her facial emotions but seems she seems happy. I always find it unique how the shadows were use in the photo. Also her brother took the photo and he is a famous photography.

In or out of focus

The focus of the photo seems to be the guy or the background of the photo in the back with the dude In the front out of focus. Maybe while the photo was being taken, the dude ran by which causes him to be out of focus. There is still a lot detail in this photo, so you can’t really care what was the main focus of the picture.

Texture

The texture of the photo is wet. The ground is full of water with a person running over but the photography was able to catch the person in the air. The water is use as a reflected.

Is the image black & white or color?

The photo is in black and white. I think the photography had the option to choose black and white and he chose it, to probably make the photo more dramatic.

Why I chose the Photo?

I chose this photo because there isn't just one focus subject. There is a lot going on in the photo. The picture gives off different feeling of happy and sad. I will say it happy cause of the person running over the water and sad cause usually a lot of black and white photos are dramatic.

Rule of thirds

The photo main focus is to the right of the picture with the lighting striking down. I think it was a great way how he was able to catch the lightning in that angle. Even if the lightning was striking down in the middle of the photo it will still be a great shoot.

Keep it Simple

The Photo is very simple. The main focus is the lightning. It’s a photo of a tornado forming and lightning striking down out of the tornado in the middle of a country like place. Sometimes simple is better.

Contrast Appropriate

The contrast is high. There is bright and some dark colors in the photo. It is half and half and very unique how the photography to took the pictures. Half of the sky is blue and the other side is pink. The lighting is very good.

Why I chose this photo?

I chose this photo because I like how the sky is split in half with blue and pink coloring. I like the coloring in this photo and how the lightning is coming
